New/Notable:

  • First update since the Fiesta’s debut in 2011
  • Offered as a sedan or hatchback
  • New, sporty ST trim and three-cylinder engine for 2014
The 2014 Ford Fiesta gets a slew of exciting updates for the 2014 model year, including a brand new sporty ST trim and a new, fuel-efficient engine which will be released in fall 2013.

The Fiesta’s exterior styling has been updated and upgraded for the new model year, with a new nose that is similar to the new look found on the Fusion midsize sedan. The new grille is larger and wider, moving the Ford logo up towards the hood and it is flanked by more aggressive headlight clusters that stretch back over the front fenders. While the previous Fiesta was round and cute, the updated 2014 model is more aggressive, especially the ST version which gets unique styling, a lowered ride height, and 17-inch wheels. The Fiesta is offered as both a four-door sedan and a four-door hatchback (the ST is hatchback only).

Under the hood, last year’s economical 120-horsepower, 1.6-liter four-cylinder returns to power the S, SE, and Titanium trims. It is mated to a five-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch automatic. There are two new engine options for 2014, one in the high-performance ST and the other an even more fuel efficient three-cylinder EcoBoost (turbocharged) engine. The ST ups the ante with a 197-horsepower, turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder that is mated to a six-speed manual only, similar to its larger sibling the Focus ST. Coming later in the year is a turbocharged 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine that will be the most efficient engine in the lineup.

Fuel economy is a big selling point for the 2014 Fiesta, which returns 29/39 mpg city/highway with the automatic and 27/38 mpg with the manual. The ST with its more powerful engine still manages 26/35 mpg, meaning you can have fun without breaking the bank at the pump.

Inside, the Fiesta’s model year changes are not as pronounced. A new touch-screen multimedia system is offered that includes a 6.5-inch display that is mounted high on the center console, right where we like it. The high screen placement makes it easier to read/see and less distracting to drivers. Standard features include an auxiliary audio input, air conditioning, 60/40-split rear seat, power side mirrors, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel. The 2014 Fiesta can also pile on the premium options as well, with SYNC/MyFord Touch, power moonroof, leather upholstery, push button start, Bluetooth connectivity, a navigation system, and heated front seats.

Though the 2014 Fiesta is small, it comes with seven standard airbags, an electronic stability system, and antilock brakes. Options include a rearview camera and parking sensors.
